Champagne Krug Grande Cuvée is the emblematic signature of the House of Krug. Since 1843, Krug Grande Cuvée has embodied what Joseph Krug, founder of the House of Krug, sought to offer his customers: a Champagne of great richness and fine elegance, beyond the vintages.
It takes more than twenty years to create a bottle of Krug Grande Cuvée. A blend of several wines from different years, Krug Grande Cuvée offers a unique mosaic of aromas, impossible to express with a single year. It is the first prestige cuvée to be recreated every year, surpassing the very notion of vintage.
This champagne has a pale gold color and fine, lively bubbles.
The nose reveals aromas of flowers, ripe, candied and dried citrus fruit, marzipan and gingerbread.
The palate explodes with notes of hazelnut, nougat, barley sugar, fruit and citrus jelly, almonds, brioche and honey.
2013 began with a long, harsh winter and a very wet spring.
Fortunately, the warm, sunny summer enabled the Pinot Noir (43%), Chardonnay (35%) and Meunier (22%) grapes to reach full maturity .
These wines were then blended with reserve wines (146 wines from 11 different vintages ) and stored in the Krug cellars for seven years to develop their elegant style and aromatic intensity.
The House was founded in 1843 by Joseph Krug, a non-conformist visionary with an uncompromising philosophy. His dream was to create the best possible Champagne every year, regardless of annual climatic variations.
Taking a traditional approach to Champagne-making, Krug decided to go beyond the very notion of vintage to create the most generous expression of Champagne every year. He thus founded a House where all Champagnes would be of equal distinction.
Chef Arnaud Lallement testifies:
"This Grande Cuvée tells me the story of Champagne over the last hundred and fifty years. It's a meal wine that triumphs from aperitif to dessert. As it opens, its aromas evolve. The freshness and liveliness of the beginning give way to notes of candied citrus, toasted, toasted nuances, which will enjoy the company of a capon stuffed with foie gras and mushrooms or duck with ponzu (citrus and soy reduction)."
