Champagne Barons de Rothschild — The excellence of the Grands Crus brought to life through Chardonnay

Founded in 2005 through an unprecedented alliance between the three branches of the Rothschild family — Mouton, Lafite and Clarke —, Barons de Rothschild champagne embodies a unique vision: that of a family venture rooted in the traditions of Champagne, run with the same rigour as the greatest Bordeaux châteaux. From a cellaring facility housed in a historic building dating from 1874 in the heart of Reims, cellar master Guillaume Lété orchestrates blends dominated by Chardonnay, vinified plot by plot. The benchmark terroir: 85 per cent Grands and Premiers Crus from the Côte des BlancsAvize, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger — and the Montagne de ReimsAÿ, Verzenay, Ambonnay. A prestigious geographical area that produces cuvées of rare depth and richness.

The Barons de Rothschild vintages — From elegance to rarity

The Concordia Brut — 60% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir, dosed at 6 g/L after at least four years’ ageing — is the centrepiece: ideal as an aperitif or with poultry in a cream sauce. The Blanc de Blancs and the Rare Collection Blanc de Blancs 2013 — a late-harvest vintage vinified after a decade of ageing — perfectly complement oysters, lobster and scallops. The Rosé pairs beautifully with foie gras and red berries; the Brut Nature, with no added dosage, reveals its pure minerality when served with sushi and raw fish.

All these cuvées are best served at between 8 and 10 °C, in a tulip-shaped glass that concentrates the Chardonnay’s aromas. La Concordia is ready to drink upon release and can be cellared for three to five years. The vintage Rare Collection gains even greater complexity after several more years in the cellar, away from light.

Barons de Rothschild — Three branches of the Rothschild family, a Champagne heritage

In 2005, the three branches of the Rothschild family — Pauline (Mouton), Saskia (Lafite) and Ariane (Clarke) — pooled their legacies to create a champagne house that reflected their values. Three legacies, a shared motto engraved on every bottle: Concordia, Industria, Integritas — harmony, hard work, integrity. This triad is more than just a symbol: it underpins every decision, from the selection of the vineyards to the final blending, and lends its name to the house’s signature cuvée.

Housed in a building dating from 1874 in the heart of Reims, the winery combines architectural heritage with state-of-the-art winemaking facilities. Under the guidance of Guillaume Lété, each plot is vinified separately: reserve wines (60 per cent of the blend in the Concordia) and an exclusive selection of Grands and Premiers Crus thus form the house’s signature mineral and elegant style.

Your questions about Barons de Rothschild champagnes

How much does a bottle of Barons de Rothschild champagne cost?
The Barons de Rothschild range spans several price points. The standard cuvées — Brut, Rosé, Blanc de Blancs, Brut Nature — generally cost between €50 and €70. La Concordia, aged for at least four years and comprising 60 per cent reserve wines, regularly exceeds this price point. The vintage Rare Collection, a limited-edition collector’s item, represents the pinnacle of the range.
What food and wine pairings go well with Barons de Rothschild champagne?
Concordia Brut pairs well with roast poultry, porcini mushroom risotto or fish in sauce. The Blanc de Blancs and the Rare Collection are ideal with oysters, lobster, scallops and caviar. The Rosé complements pan-fried foie gras, fine charcuterie and red berry desserts. The Brut Nature, with its mineral notes and precision, is superb with sushi, fish tartares and raw seafood.
How should Barons de Rothschild champagne be served and stored?
Serve at between 8 and 10 °C, ideally in a tulip-shaped glass, which concentrates the Chardonnay’s aromas and allows the bubbles to rise in fine columns. When stored in a cellar (12–14 °C, away from light and vibrations), Concordia Brut will keep for 3 to 5 years after purchase. The Rare Collection Blanc de Blancs 2013, a late-harvest vintage, will easily age for a further 8 to 10 years under the right conditions.
Where can I buy Barons de Rothschild champagne online?

How do the Barons de Rothschild differ from the Great Houses of Champagne?
Whilst the Grandes Maisons rely on scale and a global brand image, Barons de Rothschild is a family-run enterprise structured around the motto ‘Concordia, Industria, Integritas’. The combination of these three elements ensures tight governance, rigorous plot-by-plot selection and a strong foothold amongst the Grands Crus of the Côte des Blancs — an approach more akin to that of a château than that of a major brand.
Which bottle of Barons de Rothschild should you choose as a gift or for a special occasion?
For a sophisticated yet balanced gift, Concordia Brut — aged for at least four years and precisely dosed at 6 g/L — is the classic, safe choice. For a special occasion (wedding, birthday, award), the Rare Collection Blanc de Blancs 2013, a late-harvest vintage from the Grands Crus of the Côte des Blancs, offers both rarity and a powerful message to the discerning connoisseur.
