Champagne Carbon — The carbon fibre bottle

Carbon is one of the region’s most distinctive champagne houses: founded by Alexandre Mea, a fifth-generation member of the Devavry family, it has made a name for itself by combining time-honoured Champagne expertise with an aesthetic inspired by the world of motor racing. Based in Champillon, a village perched on the heights overlooking Épernay and the Marne Valley, Carbon produces cuvées in deliberately limited quantities, intended for collectors and discerning connoisseurs worldwide. Each bottle is clad in a hand-crafted carbon-fibre sleeve — a traditional craft directly inherited from Formula 1 — transforming the bottle into a collector’s item even before it is opened. An official partner on the Formula 1 podium between 2017 and 2019, the house has also forged an iconic partnership with Bugatti to create truly prestigious editions. This is a champagne that is not merely to be drunk: it is to be admired, treasured and given as a gift.

The Carbon vintages — Grand Cru and collector’s editions

The Carbon range centres on three 2019 Grand Cru cuvées that have been awarded the Gilbert & Gaillard 2026 Double Gold Medal: the Carbon Brut, a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier, ideal as an aperitif or with fine oysters and langoustines; the Rosé, fruity and full-bodied, perfect with duck breast, wild strawberries or salmon tartare; the Blanc de Blancs, mineral and crisp, which perfectly complements pan-fried scallops, grilled lobster and mature soft cheeses. The collector’s editions — Carbon Millésime 2009, EB.01 Bugatti Vintage 2002, EB.02 Chiron 300+ Vintage 2016 and Carbon Bolide Vintage 2018 — embody the fusion of rare Champagne and prestigious automotive iconography.

Serve the Carbon cuvées at 8–10 °C in a tulip-shaped glass to bring out their complex aromas. The carbon fibre bottle naturally protects the wine from light — a real advantage for long-term ageing. Stored at 10–12 °C in a stable cellar, away from vibrations, the vintage cuvées can continue to improve for a further 5 to 10 years.

Carbon — Champillon, in the heart of the Montagne de Reims

Based in Champillon, a village perched on the Montagne de Reims overlooking Épernay, Carbon has its roots in a deep-seated family tradition. Alexandre Mea, founder of the house and a fifth-generation member of the Devavry family, has chosen to reinvent the visual identity of champagne without compromising the terroir’s exacting standards: the grapes come exclusively from Grand Cru plots, and the cuvées are left to mature for many years in the cellars before being released.

Carbon’s winemaking philosophy is based on patience: each cuvée ages slowly in the cellars of Champillon, gradually developing depth, texture and precision. The blend combines Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier in proportions adjusted according to each vintage, in a constant quest for balance between the mineral freshness of the Montagne de Reims and the aromatic complexity resulting from extended ageing.

Your questions about Carbon champagnes

What is the origin of Carbon and how is it linked to Formula 1?
Carbon was founded by Alexandre Mea, a fifth-generation member of the Devavry family from the Champagne region, in Champillon on the Montagne de Reims. Inspiration from the world of motoring is at the very heart of the house: Carbon was an official supplier to the Formula 1 podium between 2017 and 2019, and each bottle is hand-wrapped in carbon fibre, the iconic material of racing cars. This gives it a unique position within the Champagne industry.
What food and wine pairings go well with Carbon champagne?
Carbon Brut is at its best with oysters, langoustines or as a gourmet aperitif. The Rosé pairs well with duck breast, beef carpaccio or strawberries with pepper. The Blanc de Blancs, with its mineral and crisp character, perfectly complements pan-fried scallops and soft cheeses. The fine vintage cuvées are best served with roast lobster or truffle-stuffed poultry.
How should Carbon champagne be served and stored?
Serve Carbon vintages at between 8 and 10 °C in a tulip-shaped glass to bring out their aromas. The carbon-fibre bottle naturally protects the wine from light — a real advantage for long-term storage. When stored at 10–12 °C in a stable cellar, away from vibrations, the vintage wines (2009, 2016, 2018) can continue to improve for a further 5 to 10 years.
Where can I buy Carbon champagne online?

Is Carbon champagne the ideal collector’s item?
Absolutely. The Carbon bottle, made from hand-woven carbon fibre, is in itself an exceptional object. The limited-edition Bugatti bottles (EB.01 Vintage 2002, EB.02 Chiron 300+ Vintage 2016, Carbon Bolide Vintage 2018) are highly sought after by collectors at the intersection of prestige champagne and motor racing. Presented in a gift box, a Carbon bottle is a unique gift for a discerning connoisseur or a high-end corporate event.
What is the difference between Carbon Brut and Carbon Rosé?
The 2019 Carbon Brut Grand Cru draws on the balance of a Chardonnay-Pinot Noir-Meunier blend: tension, freshness and length — ideal both with a meal and as an aperitif. The 2019 Rosé Grand Cru, which is fuller-bodied and fruitier, reveals notes of red berries and really comes into its own with white meats and indulgent desserts. Both wines were awarded the Gilbert & Gaillard Double Gold Medal 2026.
