Champagne Jarry Héritage — Three artisanal terroirs in the Côte de Sézanne

Jarry Héritage is a family-run winery based in Bethon, in the heart of the Côte de Sézanne, whose 6.5-hectare vineyard spans three complementary terroirs: Bethon for Chardonnay, Charly-sur-Marne for Pinot Meunier and Essoyes for Pinot Noir. This trio of plots forms the basis of an artisanal style that is both precise and diverse. Under the guidance of Johan Jarry, an oenologist trained at Mumm and La Goutte d’Or, the estate produces its entire range on site — from the vineyard to the cellar in Bethon. With production limited to 8,000 bottles and five cuvées priced between €23 and €37, Jarry Héritage embodies a demanding yet accessible vision of winemaker’s champagne: authenticity, technical mastery and a refusal to compromise.

The Jarry Héritage cuvées — Precise blends and Blanc de Blancs

The Jarry Héritage range comprises five complementary cuvées.L’Essentielle andL’Intemporelle explore the classic balances of Champagne.L’Alliance — a blend of 35 per cent Chardonnay, 30 per cent Pinot Noir and 35 per cent Pinot Meunier, fermented in stainless steel and aged for 24 months — offers a fresh, crisp and lingering profile, ideal as an aperitif or with oysters and shellfish. La Douvelle and Topaze Rosé round off the selection with fruitier characteristics, perfect with roast poultry, mature cheese or as a dessert pairing with red berries.

All the cuvées should be served at between 8 and 10 °C in a slightly tulip-shaped stemmed glass, which preserves their aromatic finesse. Stored in a cool cellar away from light, they can be kept for two to four years; the Topaze Rosé gains in complexity with a few extra months’ ageing.

Jarry Héritage — A family-run vineyard spanning three distinct terroirs

The Jarry family — Marie-Claude, Jean-Pascal and their son Johan — cultivate their vineyards across three Champagne communes, each with its own distinct characteristics: the chalky soils of Bethon (Côte de Sézanne, Chardonnay), the land at Charly-sur-Marne (Pinot Meunier) and the plots atEssoyes (Pinot Noir). This geographical spread is no coincidence: it provides the estate with natural climatic stability and a wide range of aromas that few winegrowers of this size can boast.

A graduate in oenology, Johan Jarry honed his expertise over sixteen years of winemaking at major Champagne houses, including Mumm and La Goutte d’Or, before taking over the reins of the family estate in March 2020. Every stage of the process — harvesting, pressing, fermentation, ageing and disgorging — is carried out on the estate, in the cellars at Bethon.

Your questions about Jarry Héritage champagnes

What is the difference between the Essentielle and Alliance cuvées from Jarry Héritage?
L'Essentielle emphasises balance and freshness — it is the house’s signature entry-level wine. L’Alliance is a more complex blend: 35 per cent Chardonnay, 30 per cent Pinot Noir and 35 per cent Pinot Meunier, aged in stainless steel for 24 months, with a long finish and greater structure — ideal with a meal rather than on its own as an aperitif.
What food and wine pairings go well with Jarry Héritage champagne?
Bethon’s Chardonnay pairs well with oysters, scallops and delicate fish dishes in light sauces. L’Alliance, with its structure derived from three grape varieties, complements roast poultry and creamy risottos. Topaze Rosé brings out the best in strawberries, raspberries or fine charcuterie. As an aperitif, all the cuvées come into their own with gougères or smoked salmon on toast.
How should Jarry Héritage champagne be served and stored?
Serve at between 8 and 10 °C in a tulip-shaped or stemmed glass: narrow flutes stifle the aromas. In a cool cellar (10–12 °C) away from light, non-vintage cuvées can be kept for two to four years. Cuvées aged for longer can be kept for up to five or six years.
Where can I buy Jarry Héritage champagne online?

How are Jarry Héritage champagnes produced, and what practices set them apart?
Johan Jarry oversees the entire process, from pruning the vines to disgorging. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks preserves the purity of the fruit and the clarity of the aromas. Unlike wine merchants who buy grapes or wines, no stage of the process is outsourced: quality rests on the expertise of a winegrower-oenologist trained at leading Champagne houses.
What sets a Champagne from the Côte de Sézanne apart from those produced by the major wine merchants?
The Côte de Sézanne produces Chardonnays grown on chalky soils similar to those of the Côte des Blancs, with a richness and roundness all of their own. Whilst the major houses blend large volumes from multiple sources, Jarry Héritage vinifies exclusively from its own 6.5 ha: 8,000 bottles, with no wholesaler’s mark-up, priced between €23 and €37.
