Mumm RSRV Champagne — 100% Grand Cru, the essence of the terroir
The Mumm RSRV collection represents the most exclusive and discerning expression of the House of G.H. Mumm, founded in Reims in 1827. Whilst the Cordon Rouge embodies the House’s accessible generosity, RSRV selects only grapes from plots classified as 100 per cent Grands Crus — chalky soils in Cramant and Avize on the Côte des Blancs for the Chardonnay, and clay-limestone soils in Verzenay, Aÿ, Bouzy and Ambonnay on the Montagne de Reims for the Pinot Noir. Under the guidance of cellar master Yann Munier, each cuvée features a deliberately dry dosage — between 6 and 9 g/L — and is aged for a minimum of four to six years. The result: understated, straightforward champagnes of rare purity, distributed in limited quantities to carefully selected venues.

The Mumm RSRV cuvées — four expressions of Grands Crus
The range comprises four Grand Cru wines. The RSRV Blanc de Blancs (100 per cent Chardonnay from Cramant) expresses the chalky minerality of the Côte des Blancs — perfect as an aperitif or with oysters and fine fish. The RSRV Blanc de Noirs, made from 100% Pinot Noir from Verzenay (aged for a minimum of 6 years), reveals power and complexity when paired with roast poultry or mature cheese. The RSRV Rosé Foujita (a tribute to the painter Foujita, a blend of six Grands Crus) offers a generous palate, ideal with red fruit desserts or fine charcuterie. The RSRV Cuvée 4.5 — 60 per cent Pinot Noir, 40 per cent Chardonnay, 5 Grands Crus, aged for at least 4 years — pairs superbly with sweetbreads, fish in sauce and full-flavoured cheeses.
RSRV champagnes should be served at between 8 and 10 °C in a tulip or Burgundy-style glass, which allows the bouquet to express itself fully. The Cuvée 4.5 reaches its peak within 4 to 6 years of purchase; the vintage Blanc de Noirs can improve further for a further 2 to 4 years in a cool cellar, away from light.

Mumm RSRV — A tradition of reserve wines dating back to 1838
The House of G.H. Mumm was founded in 1827 by Gottlieb de Mumm, Friedrich Giesler and Jacques-Louis Bohne. From 1840 onwards, it patiently built up a portfolio of Grand Cru vineyards in the finest terroirs of Champagne. The legacy that gives the collection its name dates back to 1838: it was customary within the House to fold the corner of a menu and set aside its finest bottles for its closest friends — hence the acronym RSRV, short for ‘réservé’.
Today, cellar master Yann Munier continues to uphold exacting winemaking standards: a dosage of 6 to 9 g/L — well below the average for ‘brut’ — and extended ageing of four to six years in the cellar, depending on the cuvée. This approach prioritises the precision of the terroir over the roundness of sugar, revealing the essence of each Grand Cru.

Your questions about Mumm RSRV champagnes
What does the acronym RSRV stand for on Mumm bottles?
RSRV is short for ‘réservé’. As early as 1838, it was a tradition at Maison Mumm to fold the corner of a card and set aside its finest bottles for its closest friends. This collection continues that legacy of exclusive selection: quantities remain deliberately limited and distribution is carefully selected.
What food and wine pairings go well with Mumm RSRV champagnes?
Blanc de Blancs is at its best as an aperitif, with oysters or a fine fish dish. The Blanc de Noirs pairs well with roast poultry, sweetbreads and hard cheeses. The Rosé Foujita complements fine charcuterie and red-berry desserts. The versatile Cuvée 4.5 is equally at home as an aperitif or at a gourmet dinner.
How should Mumm RSRV champagnes be served and stored?
Serve at between 8 and 10 °C in a tulip or Burgundy-style glass to reveal its aromatic complexity. Cuvée 4.5 is at its best within 4 to 6 years of purchase; the vintage Blanc de Noirs can improve further over a further 2 to 4 years in a cool cellar (12–14 °C), away from light and vibrations.

Why are Mumm RSRV champagnes more demanding than Cordon Rouge?
Le Cordon Rouge is the House’s festive and accessible ambassador, with a dosage of around 12 g/L. RSRV has a very different ambition: 100 per cent Grands Crus exclusively, with a dosage reduced to 6–9 g/L, aged for 4 to 6 years in the cellar, and distributed on a limited basis. It is not the same standard — this is what Mumm reserves for its most discerning connoisseurs.
What are the differences between the Mumm RSRV 4.5, Blanc de Blancs, Blanc de Noirs and Rosé Foujita cuvées?
The Cuvée 4.5 (5 Grands Crus, 60% Pinot Noir / 40% Chardonnay, aged for 4 years) is the most versatile and the ideal introduction to the range. The Blanc de Blancs (100 per cent Chardonnay from Cramant) is the most mineral and floral. The Blanc de Noirs (100% Pinot Noir from Verzenay, aged for 6 years) is the most structured and complex. The Rosé Foujita (6 Grands Crus) is the most indulgent and festive.
