Founded in 1760 in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Champagne Delamotte is one of the oldest Champagne houses in the region. Anchored in the heart of the Côte des Blancs, it is renowned for the elegance and finesse of its cuvées, driven by the excellence of Chardonnay. For more than 260 years, Delamotte has perpetuated a know-how that has made it a discreet but essential reference in theworld of champagne.

A Tradition of Family and Excellence

In 1760, François Delamotte, a councillor and large vineyard owner in Cumières, founded his Champagne house in Reims, in his townhouse on Rue Cérès. His eldest son, Alexandre, joined him to create "Delamotte Père & Fils". The family motto "Vive et me Ama" (Live and love me) was adopted at this time, and became the common thread running through the company's identity.

At the end of the XVIIIᵉ century, Nicolas-Louis, François' youngest son and a former knight of the Order of Malta, joins the house after the order's dissolution. He introduced the eight-pointed cross into the coat of arms and developed exports, giving Delamotte an international dimension. Visionary and influential, he became president of the Chamber of Commerce and was made a Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur at the coronation of Charles X in 1825. Under his impetus, the house gained in prestige and established itself as a respected name in champagne.

In the XXᵉ century, it was Marie-Louise de Nonancourt who brought Delamotte back to life in 1927 at Mesnil-sur-Oger, in the heart of the Côte des Blancs. Her sons continued her work: Charles ran the company until 1988, while Bernard developed Laurent-Perrier. That same year, he realized a dream by bringing together Delamotte and Salon, two neighboring and complementary houses, now linked like two sisters. Since 1997, Didier Depond has been at the helm, spreading their reputation around the world, while preserving their age-old heritage and motto.

The soul of Chardonnay and the excellence of terroirs

In the heart of the Côte des Blancs, Maison Delamotte draws its identity from emblematic grands crus such as Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Cramant, Avize and Oger. The chalky soils and ideal exposure of the vines enable Chardonnay, the house's flagship grape variety, to reveal finesse, elegance and minerality. For certain cuvées, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier are also used, creating subtle blends that combine structure and delicacy.

Each cuvée - Blanc de Blancs, Blanc de Blancs Millésimé, Brut or Rosé - is the fruit of precise work, where the care given to the vines, rigorous vinification and ageing in the cellar reveal the full potential of the terroir. Blanc de Blancs expresses the purity of Chardonnay, while Millésimé reflects the balance and complexity of an exceptional year. The Brut and Rosé, meanwhile, illustrate the art of blending and the consistency of the house.

Delamotte makes champagne a true reflection of its terroir and expertise. Each bottle embodies the harmony of tradition, precision and elegance, offering a refined sensory experience faithful to the House's heritage. Our philosophy of respect for the vines and the terroir ensures that each cuvée fully expresses the excellence of Chardonnay and the unique identity of Delamotte.

Conclusion

In this way, Delamotte embodies the perfect alliance between exceptional terroir, mastery of the grape variety and ancestral know-how. Each cuvée reflects the house's signature finesse, balance and elegance, offering a unique sensory experience with every tasting. True to its heritage and its motto "Vive et me Ama", Delamotte continues to celebrate the art of champagne, highlighting the richness of its terroirs and the subtlety of its blends, while passing on a know-how that spans the centuries.
