Terroir-Champagne-Ruinart

Terroirs

Montagne de Reims,
Trépail

From the slopes of Trépail, a Premier Cru village on the Montagne de Reims, the terroir of L'Artiste lies on chalky, predominantly limestone soils, particularly favorable to Chardonnay. This fine, draining chalk gives the wine its mineral tension and crystalline purity. The altitude and exposure of the plots enable slow ripening, guaranteeing freshness, aromatic finesse and natural balance.

Ruinart the oldest Champagne house

About this house

David Léclapart is one of Champagne's most brilliant winemakers. His innovative, environmentally-friendly know-how inspires many young winemakers.

David was one of the very first in Champagne and in France to take an interest in organic viticulture. In 1996, he began converting the 3 hectares of vines on his estate in Trépail to organic methods.

In 1998, he was awarded Demeter certification, and set about crafting champagnes of elegance and finesse, with particularly silky bubbles. David Léclapart produces only non-dosed, vintage champagnes, like snapshots of his Trépail terroir.
