Named after Napoleon Bonaparte's light cavalry, in which soldiers were the first to use the art of the sword, Cuvée des Hussards is powerful and expressive.
2013 is considered the reference vintage of the last decade.
To the eye
Golden hues and fine, lively bubbles.
On the nose
A very ripe nose reveals delicate aromas of white fruits, such as pear and peach, accompanied by citrus fruits such as grapefruit and lemon. Gourmet touches of Viennese pastries follow, mingling with notes of toasted almonds, mint and dried fruit.
In the mouth
Cuvée des Hussards 2013 is a jewel of the House Frerejean Frères. Its lively, lemony attack harmonizes perfectly with its creamy, fruity texture, which reveals a lovely roundness. The long, mineral finish highlights all the finesse of this champagne, magnified by over 10 years of ageing.
Côte des Blancs
Hand-harvested between September 24 and October 9, the vines faced a cold, wet winter, followed by a cool, rainy spring. The hot, very dry summer, with its exceptional amount of sunshine, enabled the grapes to finish ripening very well in early autumn.
By far the latest vintage in the last ten years, it was nonetheless a great year for Chardonnay. With its remarkable acidity and fine minerality, this great wine is a wonderful Champagne for laying down, and will improve with age in the cellar.
"Our founders, Guillaume, Richard and Rodolphe Frerejean-Taittinger, live between Paris and the Champagne region, with their families. They are the last-born of a line of cannon makers, who supplied the French army against Prussian attacks during the Napoleonic wars.
Our approach to champagne is different: rich in the expertise of a family team specialized in champagne, which respects traditional methods, yet is open to innovation. "
Three-star restaurant Guy Savoy is a distributor of Champagne Frerejean Frères.
Enjoy these cuvées with gourmet dishes such as Lobster cooked in its coral, green curry jus, carrot with peppers, or Oysters in a glazed nage, crushed oysters, seaweed and lemon granita.
