I was looking for a lovely champagne. Long-lasting bubbles and an expressive bouquet. Impeccable delivery, as usual. Exactly what I was looking for.

THE CUVÉES OF MAISON KRUG
A golden robe with amber highlights, threaded with a fine, persistent effervescence. The nose opens on white blossom, brioche, acacia honey and dried fruits — hazelnut, almond — followed by candied citrus zest and a subtle hint of saffron. The palate is broad and generous, at once powerful and precise, underpinned by a remarkable mineral tension and a finish of pastry cream and toasted bread of extraordinary length.

A blend of 146 wines drawn from 11 different years, from 1998 to 2016, with 42% reserve wines — the hallmark of Krug's philosophy of transcending the vagaries of climate. The 2016 base brings freshness and structure; reserve wines from preceding vintages add temporal complexity and an inimitable aromatic depth.
Founded in 1843 by Joseph Krug, the Maison Krug is built upon a philosophy unique to Champagne: to create the finest possible champagne each year, regardless of the vintage. Rejecting the notion of a prestige cuvée reserved solely for exceptional years, Joseph Krug made the Grande Cuvée his masterwork — a multi-vintage blend of unmatched consistency and complexity.
Owned by the LVMH group since 1999, Krug retains full artistic independence and upholds uncompromising artisanal standards: fermentation of reserve wines in small oak casks, a minimum of six years on lees, and a reserve wine library unique in the world, spanning more than 20 different vintages.
Served cool at 10°C, the Grande Cuvée pairs magnificently with golden gougères, whose cheesy, buttery note echoes the brioche generosity of the cuvée.
Citrus-cured gravlax with fresh herbs enters into dialogue with the lemony notes and mineral vivacity of the 172ème Édition.
The classic pairing par excellence: the briny, pearlescent flesh of lobster marries perfectly with the power and extraordinary length of the Grande Cuvée.
