Taittinger Champagne

Founded in 1734 and returned to family ownership in 2006 under the leadership of Vitalie Taittinger, the Reims-based house has built a global reputation around a stylistic signature that is rare in Champagne: the predominance of Chardonnay. Grown on the Gallo-Roman chalk cellars of the Côte des Blancs and the Montagne de Reims, its nearly 289 hectares of estate-grown vines give it exceptional control over its raw materials. From the Brut Réserve, an elegant and accessible entry-level wine, to the legendary Comtes de Champagne blanc de blancs — voted the world’s best sparkling wine in 2025 at the Prix Vinofed — the Taittinger range embodies the art of Champagne at its most ethereal and mineral. A benchmark choice for the discerning connoisseur and for exceptional occasions alike.

Taittinger Champagne — a legendary cuvée

Taittinger’s cuvées — from Brut Réserve to Prestige

Brut Réserve, a predominantly Chardonnay blend drawn from a selection of 37 Champagne crus, is at its best as an aperitif or served with oysters and langoustines. Les Folies de la Marquetterie, made exclusively from the estate’s own vineyards, develops aromas of peach and apricot that pair perfectly with roast poultry or semi-cured foie gras. Comtes de Champagne, an award-winning vintage blanc de blancs, is at its best with pan-fried scallops, turbot or a mature goat’s cheese.

The Nocturne, with a more generous dosage, is the perfect dessert champagne to serve with a fruit tart or an iced soufflé. The entire range should be served at between 8 and 10 °C in a tulip-shaped glass to fully release the aromas. The vintage Comtes de Champagne can improve over ten to fifteen years in a cool cellar, away from light.

Taittinger — Three centuries of independence and Chardonnay

The house was founded in 1734 by Jacques Fourneaux in Reims. Pierre Taittinger took the reins in 1932 and ensured the family name would be associated with it for generations to come. After a period away from family ownership, the Taittingers bought back their own house in 2006 — a move that marked the beginning of an independence they have jealously safeguarded ever since. Vitalie Taittinger is now the company’s chairperson, continuing nearly three centuries of Champagne expertise passed down from generation to generation.

The 289-hectare vineyard, planted on the predominantly chalky slopes of Champagne, is one of the largest estates in the region. The white soils of the Côte des Blancs, formed from sixteen-century-old Gallo-Roman chalk quarries, lend the Chardonnays a minerality and tension characteristic of the Taittinger style — light, precise and with great length on the palate.

Your questions about Taittinger champagnes

Is Taittinger champagne good value for money?
With 289 hectares of its own vineyards and a predominantly in-house supply chain, Taittinger has greater control over its production process than most of the major houses. The Brut Réserve falls within the range of premium champagnes without being overly pretentious — accessible elegance. The Comtes de Champagne, a prestigious cuvée which won the Prix Vinofed in 2025, justifies its price through the rarity of the vintage and its international acclaim.
What food and wine pairings go well with Taittinger champagnes?
Brut Réserve is the perfect accompaniment to aperitifs, oysters and sashimi. Les Folies de la Marquetterie, with its notes of peach and apricot, pairs well with roast poultry or semi-cured foie gras. Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs enhances lobster, scallops and fine fish. Nocturne, which is sweeter, pairs well with fruity desserts, lemon soufflés or delicate tarts.
How should Taittinger champagne be served and stored?
Serve Taittinger at 8–10 °C in a tulip glass or a tall flute to preserve the aromas. Store non-vintage wines for 3 to 5 years in a cellar at 12 °C, away from light and vibrations. Vintage Comtes de Champagne can improve over 10 to 15 years — patience will be rewarded.

What is the difference between the Comtes de Champagne and the Folies de la Marquetterie?
Comtes de Champagne is a 100 per cent Chardonnay blanc de blancs, produced only in great vintages and crowned the world’s finest sparkling wine at the 2025 Prix Vinofed. Les Folies de la Marquetterie is an exclusive blend from the estate’s own vineyards, more expressive and fruity — with notes of peach and apricot — and best enjoyed whilst still young. Two complementary interpretations of the Taittinger style.
Is Taittinger a champagne suitable as a gift or for a special occasion?
A family-owned and independent house since 1734, Taittinger enjoys a reputation that is instantly recognised by connoisseurs and novices alike. For a memorable gift, the vintage Comtes de Champagne is the obvious choice — thanks to the prestige of the name, the elegance of the label and the exceptional character of the wine. The Taittinger Collection, adorned with works by great artists such as Sebastião Salgado, also makes it a collector’s item in its own right.

Taittinger: Brut Réserve, Prélude, Folies de la Marquetterie or Comtes de Champagne — which cuvée should you choose?
Taittinger is the home of Chardonnay: a Brut Réserve that is fresher than its rivals, a Prélude made from grand cru grapes, an estate cuvée aged in oak and, at the very top, the Comtes de Champagne, one of the three or four prestigious blancs de blancs that really count. Here’s how to navigate the range, what each cuvée is worth, and the price at which we sell it.
