THE CUVÉES OF MAISON CHARLES HEIDSIECK
A deep golden robe with amber-mahogany glints, threaded with a fine, persistent bead. The nose is beguilingly complex, opening on candied orange, salted caramel, toasted hazelnut and light tobacco, with undercurrents of chalk, mocha and cinnamon rising from the glass. On the palate, a strikingly luminous, vibrant citrus freshness takes one by surprise; the mousse dissolves in a delicate whisper, giving way to a concentrated, velvety, profound texture of sumptuous length, laced with gentle spice and dried mushroom.

A blend of 53% Pinot Noir and 47% Chardonnay, sourced exclusively from Grand Cru and Premier Cru parcels throughout Champagne, aged for 15 years on lees in the chalk cellars of Reims before disgorgement in September 1998 — one of the longest extended ageing periods ever undertaken for a prestige cuvée.
Founded in 1851 in Reims by Charles-Camille Heidsieck, a visionary entrepreneur and consummate charmer, the Maison owes its legendary sobriquet «Champagne Charlie» to its founder's dazzling conquests along the American East Coast, where he introduced Champagne as a way of life in its own right.
Its most precious legacy remains the 48 Gallo-Roman chalk cellars carved 30 metres underground, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2015: absolute darkness, constant temperature and ideal humidity for the slow, sovereign ageing of the Maison's greatest cuvées.
The evolved richness and aromatic depth of this vintage call for a terrine of foie gras as a suitably sumptuous opening.
The sweet, briny flesh of roasted lobster magnifies the noisette butter notes and chalky minerality of the wine.
The earthy, tobacco and gentle spice aromas of this Champagne pair with effortless grace alongside truffle-roasted poultry.
