Aromatic profile

The structure of this champagne

Four dimensions to capture its balance
Freshness
Dosed at just 2 g/L Extra Brut, the natural acidity of Cramant Chardonnay delivers a razor-sharp, persistent vivacity.
Roundness
Ageing in foudres and Burgundian barrels imparts a velvety texture, held in check by the chalky minerality of the Grand Cru.
Depth
The naturally low yields of 50- to 80-year-old vines produce a concentration rarely seen in a Côte des Blancs Chardonnay.
Length
The saline, chalky finish lingers with exceptional persistence — the unmistakable signature of old Chardonnay vines from Cramant.

TASTING NOTES

Pale gold in colour with green highlights, threaded with fine, persistent bubbles. The nose is arrestingly deep, weaving together ripe stone fruits (white peach, apricot), dried flowers, toasted bread and the chalky minerality that is the hallmark of the Grand Cru of Cramant. On the palate, the attack is precise and lively; concentrated substance unfurls along a finely chiselled acidity, carrying a long, saline finish with accents of hazelnut and candied lemon.

Terroirs

Sourced from the 'Bourron du Levant' plot within the Grand Cru of Cramant (Côte des Blancs), the vines — aged between 50 and 80 years — are farmed biodynamically by Pierre-Emmanuel Larmandier, rooted in pure chalk that lends the cuvée its singular mineral identity.

Larmandier-Bernier

About this house

Founded in Vertus at the heart of the Côte des Blancs, Larmandier-Bernier is one of the most respected grower-producer houses in Champagne. Since the 1990s, Pierre-Emmanuel Larmandier has practised a peasant, biodynamic viticulture (Demeter certified) across Grand Cru and Premier Cru parcels, guided by a philosophy of absolute non-intervention.

The house signature rests on faithful expression of terroir: hand harvesting, spontaneous fermentations, ageing in large oak foudres and Burgundian barrels, and very low or zero dosage. La Vieille Vigne du Levant represents its rarest achievement — produced in a few thousand bottles per year since the 1988 vintage.
