THE CUVÉES OF MAISON LOUIS DOUSSET
Pale rose in the glass with salmon-pink highlights, the bubbles are fine and persistent — a study in elegance. The nose is springlike and delicate: wild strawberry, fresh raspberry, rose petal and a brioche warmth inherited from the extended lees ageing. On the palate, the entry is fresh and lively, before a silky roundness driven by Pinot Noir from Verzenay takes over, culminating in a mineral, fruit-laden finish of impressive length.

Sourced from the Grands Crus of Verzenay and Mailly-Champagne on the north-facing slopes of the Montagne de Reims, the Louis Dousset vineyards rest on a deeply chalky subsoil of profound minerality. The average age of the plots — 46 years, with some exceeding 80 — concentrates the full expression of the terroir into every bunch.
Founded in 1844 by Léopold Dousset, a native of the Aisne who settled in Verzenay at the heart of the Montagne de Reims Grands Crus, Maison Louis Dousset today cultivates some 8 hectares planted exclusively to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Jean-Roch Floquet, Louis Dousset's grandson, took over the helm in 1998 and brings the same exacting standards to every cuvée: parcel-by-parcel vinification, a minimum of four years' ageing in the cellars, and viticultural practices rooted in biodynamics.
The house philosophy rests on patience and precision: allowing the chalky terroir of Verzenay and Mailly to speak for itself, without artifice. The result is a tightly edited range of grower Champagnes with a strong individual character, combining aromatic complexity with exceptional ageing potential.
Its fine bubbles and notes of springtime red fruits make it an ideal companion to open the celebrations.
The rosé's freshness and chalky minerality lift the rich, yielding fat of a salmon tartare beautifully.
The fleshy, fruit-forward Pinot Noir from Verzenay pairs naturally with the sweet-spiced succulence of duck breast à l'orange.
