Piper-Heidsieck Champagne

Founded in 1785 in Reims by Florens-Louis Heidsieck, Piper-Heidsieck has, for nearly two and a half centuries, embodied a distinctive Champagne style: the fusion of classical elegance and a deeply confident boldness. Under the guidance of cellar master Émilien Boutillat, the house draws its richness from a network of over 240 partner winegrowers spread across more than 110 crus, mainly in the Montagne de Reims. This exceptional sourcing, combined with exclusively hand-harvested grapes and a minimum of 36 months’ ageing on racks, results in champagnes of remarkable precision. From the multi-vintage Cuvée Brut to the extremely rare Hors-Série cuvées, every bottle embodies the high standards of a B Corp -certified house — as committed to quality as it is to making a positive impact.

Piper-Heidsieck Champagne — an iconic cuvée

Piper-Heidsieck cuvées — From Brut NV to Hors-Série

The range centres on the multi-vintage Cuvée Brut, a blend of 50 per cent Pinot Noir, 30 per cent Pinot Meunier and 20 per cent Chardonnay sourced from over 110 crus — perfect as an aperitif or with fresh oysters. The Essentiel collection features a mineral-driven Extra Brut (scallops, sushi), a Blanc de Blancs (shellfish, delicate fish) and a Blanc de Noirs (poultry in sauce, fine charcuterie). The 2014 and 2018 vintages pair well with lobster and delicate white meats.

The Brut Rosé and the Cuvée Sublime are best enjoyed with red fruit desserts or creamy cheeses. The Hors-Série cuvées — including the 1971 and 1982 vintages, aged for several decades — should be served at 8–10 °C in a tulip-shaped glass; the more mature ones benefit from being decanted for a few minutes to release their full complexity. The Essentiel and Vintage cuvées can easily be cellared for 3 to 5 years in a cool cellar.

Piper-Heidsieck — Champagne’s spirit of daring, rooted in Reims since 1785

In 1785, Florens-Louis Heidsieck founded a wine merchant’s firm in Reims that was to leave a lasting mark on the history of Champagne. Acquired in 2011 by the EPI Group, and now run by the Descours family, Piper-Heidsieck owns 65 hectares of vineyards and draws on a network of over 240 partner winegrowers covering more than 110 crus. This exceptional network, based mainly in the Montagne de Reims, offers the house a range of terroirs of a richness rarely found in Champagne.

At the helm of the cellar, cellar master Émilien Boutillat applies a philosophy of precision and generosity. The grapes are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness, before spending at least 36 months on racks — well beyond the appellation’s requirements — to develop the aromatic complexity characteristic of the house.

Your questions about Piper-Heidsieck champagnes

Who owns the Piper-Heidsieck house?
Founded in 1785 in Reims by Florens-Louis Heidsieck, the company was acquired in 2011 by the EPI Group, owned by the Descours family. This independent structure enables it to pursue an ambitious quality policy, as demonstrated in particular by its B Corp certification, a global standard setting high environmental and social standards.
What food and wine pairings go well with Piper-Heidsieck champagne?
The Cuvée Brut NV is ideal as an aperitif or with oysters and seafood. The Essentiel Extra Brut pairs well with sushi and grilled scallops. The Blanc de Blancs brings out the best in lobster and shellfish. The Blanc de Noirs pairs beautifully with poultry in sauce. The Vintages are marvellous with fine fish or white meat in a creamy sauce.
How should Piper-Heidsieck champagne be served and stored?
Serve at 8–10 °C in a tulip glass (for brut wines) or a flute (as an aperitif). The Cuvée Brut NV is best enjoyed young, whilst the Essentiel and Vintage cuvées develop greater complexity after 3 to 5 years of cellaring. Store the bottles horizontally, at a temperature of between 10 and 14 °C, away from light and vibrations.

What is Piper-Heidsieck’s B Corp certification, and why is it a mark of integrity?
B Corp certification recognises companies that strike a balance between economic performance and a positive impact on society and the environment. For Piper-Heidsieck, this translates into concrete commitments to its 240 partner winegrowers, a sustainable viticulture approach and an exemplary social policy — a rare stance amongst the major Champagne houses.
Which Piper-Heidsieck cuvée should you choose for a gift or a special occasion?
For a celebration, the Cuvée Brut or Brut Rosé offer a generous, approachable taste. For an exceptional gift, the 2014 or 2018 Vintages will impress connoisseurs. The 1971 and 1982 Hors-Série are extremely rare collector’s items, ideal for marking a significant anniversary or a particularly memorable occasion.
