TASTING NOTES

A golden robe with copper highlights, lifted by a fine, persistent effervescence. The nose opens on white peach, candied apricot and buttery brioche, with a delicate touch of vanilla from partial ageing in old oak foudres. The palate is broad and silky, driven by Pinot Noir, with the incisive freshness that Chardonnay brings and a long, lingering finish of honey and toasted hazelnut.

Terroirs

Drawn exclusively from the vines of the Château de la Marquetterie, the Taittinger estate in Pierry, with a full south-south-west exposure. The first single-estate champagne in Taittinger's history, with 30% of the wines vinified in old oak foudres to lend depth and complexity.

Taittinger

About this house

Founded in 1734 and acquired by Pierre-Charles Taittinger in 1932, Maison Taittinger is one of the rare grandes Maisons to remain in the hands of a Champenois family. Its exceptional 288-hectare vineyard — including the Château de la Marquetterie — makes it one of the largest family-owned estates in Champagne.

Celebrated for its elegant, airy style dominated by Chardonnay, Taittinger is also the custodian of a unique architectural heritage: its cellars are housed within Gallo-Roman galleries and the Caves Saint-Nicaise, a classified historic monument, hewn beneath the city of Reims.

The silky roundness of the Pinot Noir and the generous dosage find a harmonious match with the melting richness of a mi-cuit foie gras.

Main course

Main course

The aromatic depth and persistence of this single-estate cuvée marry nobly with the earthy flavours of truffle over roasted poultry.

Exceptional

What a lovely discovery this champagne is. Light, airy and utterly addictive. I received some excellent advice before buying it. It’s now my go-to champagne.
