Aromatic profile

The structure of this champagne

Four dimensions to capture its balance
Freshness
Crystalline acidity inherited from the cool, slow-ripening 2013 vintage, conferring a remarkable mineral tension.
Roundness
A proportion of oak-aged wine brings a subtle creaminess that balances without ever weighing down.
Depth
Concentrated and intense, driven by fully ripe Grand Cru fruit from the Côte des Blancs.
Length
An interminable finish of chalk, ginger and liquorice — the unmistakable signature of the great Comtes.

TASTING NOTES

Pale gold in colour with golden highlights, fine and persistent bubbles. On the nose, an elegant bouquet of white flowers, candied lemon zest, light brioche and a distinctive chalky minerality. On the palate, tension and freshness take centre stage, carried by notes of poached apricot, ginger and acacia honey, before an exceptionally long finish of chalk and liquorice.

Terroirs

Sourced exclusively from the five Grand Cru villages of the Côte des Blancs — Avize, Cramant, Chouilly, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger — this Blanc de Blancs is vinified 95% in stainless steel tanks and 5% in oak casks, then aged for over six years on lees.

Taittinger

About this house

Founded in 1932 by Pierre Taittinger in Reims, the house remains one of the rare great Champagne names to stay independent and family-owned, today led by Vitalie Taittinger. The region's largest vineyard owner with 288 hectares — 40% of which are classified Grand and Premier Cru — Taittinger embodies a vision deeply rooted in the land and in time.

Chardonnay lies at the heart of the house's identity: it lends its cuvées lightness, elegance and a remarkable capacity to age. The Comtes de Champagne, created in 1952, is its absolute expression — a vintage prestige cuvée produced only in exceptional years, crafted in limited quantities and released to the world with several years of maturity.

Its fine bubbles and chalky minerality pair beautifully with crisp Parmesan shortbread.

The citrus vivacity and tension of the 2013 elevate the briny notes and fresh herbs of gravlax.

The mineral depth and length of the Comtes de Champagne 2013 find their ideal partner in the pearlescent, iodine-tinged flesh of lobster.
