TASTING NOTES

Pale, bright robe, beneath a fine bubble. The nose is clean and precise: green apple, yellow apple, then mineral notes and a hint of iodine — chardonnay in its purest form, with nothing to dress it up. The palate is dry, strict, medium-bodied: the fine acidity of the 2019 harvest carries the wine from start to finish, and the 4 g/L dosage simply accompanies it. The finish is intense, with a perfectly balanced interplay between fruit and minerality. A precise, luminous blanc de blancs, to be served between 8 and 10°C in a tulip glass, with seafood.

About this house

Three generations have succeeded one another in Bouzy: François, then René, then Arnaud Moreau, who took up the family torch after a first career in IT. The estate cultivates four hectares of vines in Bouzy and Ambonnay, two of Champagne's seventeen Grand Cru-classified villages, using sustainable viticulture and hand harvesting. Seven cuvées come from it, each a different reading of the same terroir.

Érynn is the exception in the range. In a village almost entirely occupied by pinot noir, Arnaud Moreau chose to isolate a plot of chardonnay, Le Mont des Tours, to vinify it separately and to draw from it only one harvest at a time — it is, the house says, "the most precise expression of our vision of Bouzy." Sommelier Paz Levinson awarded it 91/100 in Sommeliers International.
