There are vintages that can be recognised by their colour and others by their bottle. The Belle Époque bottle, painted with white and pink anemones, falls into the latter category: it is one of the most famous objects in Champagne, and epitomises the House of Perrier-Jouët, founded in Épernay in 1811 by Pierre-Nicolas Perrier and Rose-Adélaïde Jouët. Its style is characterised by Chardonnay: 40 of its 65 hectares are planted with this grape variety in the grands crus of Cramant and Avize, giving it a floral profile — orange blossom, lime blossom, honeysuckle – which can be found across the range from the Grand Brut to the Belle Époque. This guide reviews the cuvées available in our cellar, along with their current prices.
Émile Gallé’s anemones
In 1902, the house commissioned the master glassmaker Émile Gallé, a leading figure of the École de Nancy and Art Nouveau, to design a motif for its bottles: white and pink Japanese anemones with golden stems. The motif lay dormant in the cellars for sixty years, until it was rediscovered in 1964. It became the design for the new prestige cuvée, Belle Époque, whose first vintage, 1964, was launched in 1969. Ever since, Perrier-Jouët has nurtured this connection with Art Nouveau — the house boasts one of the finest private collections of works from this period. The Perrier-Jouët range at a glance
- Grand Brut — the non-vintage brut, floral and harmonious.
- Blanc de Blancs — the pure Chardonnay, lively and spontaneous.
- Blason Rosé — the rosé, rounder and more full-bodied than the rest of the range.
- Belle Époque — the prestigious vintage cuvée, available as brut, rosé and blanc de blancs.
Grand Brut: the entry-level expression
The Grand Brut, shown here in its GreenBox presentation, opens with notes of orange blossom, lime blossom and honeysuckle, followed by lemon, white peach and a hint of brioche; the attack is lively and the palate fresh. This is the Perrier-Jouët for aperitifs and celebrations, priced at €51.90.
Blanc de Blancs: Chardonnay in its purest form
The Blanc de Blancs pays homage to the house’s signature grape variety: elderflower, acacia, honeysuckle, pure citrus and a subtle hint of Sichuan pepper, with a bright, lemony palate. €63.62 per bottle, €66 in a GreenBox presentation case. Compare with our other Blanc de Blancs champagnes.
Blason Rosé: the indulgent exception
Blason Rosé stands out as an exception at Perrier-Jouët: more roundness and power, without losing its floral delicacy. Wild strawberry, pomegranate, raspberry, with a hint of brioche. A rosé perfect for both the table and as an aperitif, priced at €78.80, amongst our rosé champagnes.
Belle Époque: the prestige cuvée
Belle Époque 2014, 2015 and 2016
Three vintages, three distinct characters. The Belle Époque 2014 (€172) evokes the grace of a carnation: vineyard peach, poached pear, lime blossom, hawthorn, candied lemon and a silky texture. The Belle Époque 2015 (€184.10), born of a sunny year, is more expressive — white peach, pink grapefruit, lime blossom and hawthorn blossom, followed by spices: nutmeg, ginger and cumin. The Belle Époque 2016 (€172) returns to the house’s signature floral profile: honeysuckle, acacia, white peach, poached pear and golden brioche.
Belle Époque Rosé 2014
Peony, cherry blossom, pomegranate, raspberry, a hint of mandarin and elderflower: the Belle Époque Rosé 2014 (€329) is one of Champagne’s most delicate prestige rosés, best served with lobster or a red-berry dessert.
Belle Époque Blanc de Blancs 2014
The house’s quintessential Chardonnay: magnolia, acacia, fresh almond, candied ginger, a hint of honey, and a texture as silky as can be. The Belle Époque Blanc de Blancs 2014 (€370) is the pinnacle of the range, for an occasion that truly deserves it.

Serving and storing Perrier-Jouët
8 to 10 °C for the Grand Brut, Blanc de Blancs and Blason Rosé; 10 to 12 °C for Belle Époque, in a white wine glass that allows the aromas to unfold. Non-vintage bruts should be enjoyed within three years; Belle Époque can be kept for ten years or more, away from light — its painted bottle makes no difference. Our storage and serving advice covers the rest. All available cuvées are listed on the Perrier-Jouët website.
