Terroirs

A blend of more than 85% Grands and Premiers Crus, with a majority of Pinot Noir sourced from the Montagne de Reims and the Grande Vallée de la Marne. The high proportion of reserve wines — aged for up to 15 years in magnum — lends the cuvée an exceptional complexity and depth.

About this house

Founded in 1829 in Aÿ, at the heart of the Grande Vallée de la Marne, Bollinger is one of the rare great Champagne houses to remain family-owned and independent. The only house still vinifying a portion of its wines in small Burgundian oak casks, it has cultivated for two centuries a powerful, structured style of remarkable depth.

Holder of the Royal Warrant of the British Crown since 1884, the house has built its international reputation on exacting standards: a minimum ageing period more than twice that required by Appellation rules, meticulous management of a solera of reserve wines aged in magnums, and ownership of its own vineyards covering nearly 12% of its needs. The Spécial Cuvée, whose name was suggested in 1911 by a British agent, remains its most iconic expression.
